After all the club belongs to all of our members and each and everyone one of us need to support the club in shaping its future.

WIMBLEDON DRAW ELIGABILITY – NEW RULES FOR JUNIORS!

In order to encourage you to attend the AGM we have kept the same eligibility rules as last year for the Wimbledon draw.  You will also need to have registered as a member of British Tennis by 31/1/12 and need to attend the AGM or return a proxy form.

For the first time our Juniors members over the age of 9 are now entitled  to enter the Wimbledon Draw without the need to attend the AGM as long as they are members of British Tennis by 31/1/12. Junior members who wish to enter the draw will have to sign-up at the club and nominate an adult proxy  to attend the draw night for them as tickets have to paid for on the night of the draw, (Junior Wimbledon Ticket Proxy Form to follow).  The same rules that are currently in place for our adult members winning tickets also apply to juniors.  These rules can be found on our website.

These are a great way to meet new players and have a lot of fun. In a tennis ladder, players are arranged like rungs of a ladder. Players challenge one another to a match. As a player wins or loses, the player moves up or down in position on the ladder. The goal of the tennis ladder is to be at the top.

We are using the Global Tennis Network to run our ladders online via a private network, which allows us to create and manage our own tennis ladders.

The secretary is an member of the Management Committee and is responsible for organising the monthly MC meetings,including producing the agenda, taking and distributing the minutes of these meetings.  They must ensure all  action points of these meetings are carried out.  It would be useful if the Secretary had a good understanding of the club and how it operates, but this is not essential.

Organising the Wimbledon ticket allocation draw and ensuring accurate records are kept.

Assisting in the running of the AGM.

Estimated time commitment :- Attending the 11 management committee meetings per annum, 1 x AGM, 1 x Wimbledon Draw night.  2-3 hours per week.

Mike gained the silver medal in the tennis singles competition (60-69 age group) against strong Dutch, British and German opposition. Mike also reached the table-tennis quarter-finals and competed in the tennis doubles and badminton singles!

Supported by the International Olympic Committee, the World Transplant Games represent the largest organ donor awareness event in the world, featuring a series of sporting events including swimming, track and field, the main racquet sports, golf, volleyball and many more. This bi-annual event is run to raise awareness world-wide of the life-saving benefit of transplantation, and of how organ transplant can transform the critically ill back to full fitness and sporting excellence.

Mike was on kidney dialysis when he received a kidney transplant in October 2007. He said ‘there is a desperate need both in the UK and in all other countries for more people to sign up to be potential organ donors. Although a third of the UK population have now signed on to the Organ Donor Register, there are currently nearly 8,000 people in the UK still on the transplant waiting list.  At this event many of the people who take part are young and it is easy to see what a difference organ donation has made to their lives”

Mike also wanted to thank his coach Stuart Sutherland from the Active Tennis team “Stuart was a great coach and taught me finally how to serve!” He added, “you only need to be a member of WLTC for 42 years to achieve great things!” Congratulations Mike for all your fellow members!
