Club Manager Update

Dear members,

Merry Christmas! We’re all enjoying the run up to Christmas at the club, and we’ve hosted some brilliant festive events over the last few weeks.
Our Christmas party was an excellent night. Guests enjoyed food, drinks, music & dancing, and even some table magic! Thank you to all those who attended and to our excellent social and bar teams for all the efforts making it a good night.

We also held the Waves for Wishes charity tournament at the end of November, after missing out on the event last year. The event raised a huge £1,612 for the Make a Wish foundation, well done to Scott and Jane (organisers), coaches and bar staff for another successful event at WLTC.
Tinsel tennis was held last week! Great to see many of you there and with some brilliant outfits on display! Some pictures of the event included below!

Going forward we have some exciting projects coming up at the club, starting with the upgrade works to the floodlights on Courts 10 & 11. Works will commence in the coming days weather depending.
Moving into 2022 and Court 11 will be upgraded from Tarmac, to an Acrylic court in April/May.
Plans to refurbish the men’s and ladies changing rooms are in place and we anticipate works commencing in April. See below for more details, and more info to be sent in due course.

Also, don’t miss an exciting announcement below on the ‘fast growing’ sport, ‘Pickleball’, which will be trialled at WLTC early next year!

And finally from me, a BIG thank you to everyone involved in the club during 2021. All staff, coaches, volunteers, team captains, committee, and you the members!
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all the best for 2022!!

Take care and see you soon,

Jack Allan

Club Manager

Pickleball at WLTC!

We’re very excited to announce WLTC will be trialling Pickleball at the club in January 2022 on an indoor court.
This trial session will be a masterclass hosted by the UK Pickleball founder, Alan Speller.
There will be a small cost involved to cover the indoor court fee.
More details of dates, times and cost will be sent in due course.

What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a fun sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, and is a sport for ALL ages and abilities.
Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, over a net.

Huge shout out to ladies NPL team who are currently top of the league table against some fierce competition in the south east region. Next up is Roehampton.

Another massive shout out to ladies 1 who are top of the league in Berkshire division 1 halfway through the season. We have taken pole position after defeating our arch nemesis David Lloyd Bracknell in an unprecedented 3 sets victory against both their first and second pairs. The opposition then decided not to play the remaining rubbers.

In other but equally important news, the second team managed to secure 2 points against DL Bracknell 2 to keep us in the running for promotion.

The third team battled in the first two matches to draw even 1-1 before the rain came and the other rubbers couldn’t be played. They therefore got a losing draw.

The fourth and fifth teams unfortunately  lost 1-3 in what we’re close matches.
