Club Manager Update 


 
Dear Members,

It’s a busy and exciting time at the club. There’s SO much to update you on so i’ll keep it brief here, full updates are included below. 
I hope you all have a great Easter break! 

Court 11:The resurfacing of court 11 started on 16th March and is well underway. We are on schedule to be completed end of April/early May.

Changing Rooms: The changing room refurbishment began on 4th April so please be aware there will still be some disruption over the next few weeks. We anticipate works will be completed mid May, we will keep you updated. 

Club Championships 2022: The deadline has now passed for entering the Club Closed Championships. The full draw up in the clubhouse. 

Club Sessions: Moved outside from 27th March, see the details in the ‘reminders’ below. Fingers crossed the weather will warm up a little soon!

Indoor Courts: Don’t forget you can now also book the indoor courts from 7am weekdays, we will keep you updated on opening hours. 

Ball Machine: The club recently purchased a Slinger Ball Machine which is now available for members to hire from the clubhouse. Details ‘how to hire’ included below.  

Teams: The summer season has begun for our teams, good luck to all our adults and juniors for the coming months.

Coaching: Easter camps currently underway

Court 11 Update
The resurfacing works on Court 11 began on 16th March, you cant miss it if you’ve visited the club since! 
We still have a few weeks ahead of us before completion, we will keep you updated when the new court is ready and available to book!



 
 

Changing Rooms Refurbishment

Incase you missed it, this is a reminder that the works to refurbish our changing rooms began on Monday 4th April, anticipating completion mid-May .

Please be aware there will be some disruption inside the club during the refurbishment, we apologise for any inconvenience.

From Monday 4th, the changing rooms and toilets will be out of action but the toilet in the foyer will remain available.

Access through the main entrance, to the bar, the indoor courts and the shop will remain as normal until we instruct otherwise.

Slinger Ball Machine
Now available to Hire



Please see below the instructions for both; hiring the Slinger Ball Machine, and how to add your own Ball Machine to your booking.

How to hire the Slinger Ball Machine for your court booking.

The Slinger Ball Machine can ONLY be hired at the bar, or over the phone on 01753 830820, to avoid any issues of double bookings.

1. Choose the booking time you’d like via your got courts app.
2. The bar staff will confirm if the ball machine is available for your chosen slot, then complete the booking for you.
3. You will receive email confirmation of your booking via got courts

Jeno Nesselfeld

An evening to meet and reflect on the sudden loss of club member Jeno Nesselfeld was held by his friends at the club on Friday 1^st April.
Jeno only ever drank red wine so it was only fitting to raise a toast to him with a glass of red and to the memories of such a wonderful person and friend.

Upcoming Events & Tournaments

Club Championships 2022


If you have entered the Club Championships, you should have received the draw via email. 
Please see the full draw up in the clubhouse, and incase you missed the details below:
 
Information

• Players are responsible for organising their own matches and booking their own courts for these matches. You must write the completed scores on the draw (up in the bar area, on the notice board).
• Finals day will be held on Sunday 26th June so you must be available on this date should you get through to the final. 
• Matches MUST be completed by the ‘Play By’ date shown. Any match not completed will be coin tossed by The Championships Committee the following day, the winners of the coin toss will advance through to the next round.
• The matches will be best of 3 sets, the 3rd set will be decided by a championship tiebreak (first to 10 points, 2 clear).
• Now that the draw has been done you can not change your partner for any of the doubles events. If one person is no longer able to play I am afraid you will have to forfeit your match.

Thames Hospice/ Kay Mustill Tournament

We are excited to announce the Thames Hospice (Kay Mustill) Tournament is now accepting entries!
This is an annual event hosted at WLTC, with all proceeds going to the Thames Hospice

When/Where:

Wednesday 4th May at WLTC on the outdoor courts (indoors if the weather’s poor)

Timings:

Players are asked to arrive for sign in at 9:30am, with the first round of matches to begin promptly at 10am.

We will aim to have the big finale on court by 12:00pm, and a short presentation will be held up at the bar as soon as the final has finished.

Useful Info:

Although we will do our best to keep to mixed/mens/ladies doubles, there may be times where we will be unable to do so. We will aim to keep the teams as fair as possible throughout each round as we want to give everybody an equal chance to get through to the final!

Hiring the Club House for an Event


Our clubhouse is available to hire for an event, please see the information below and if you have any questions please contact our Bar Manager Laura on bar@wltc.co.uk 

Information

• Available Saturday 6.30pm to Midnight (last orders 11.30pm)*
• Set up can be from 6pm providing the club is quiet.
• Can hold up to 125 people
• £400 (for members) £500 (non-members) to hire the room for up to 50 people from 6.30pm to Midnight which includes 2 bar staff – payable by bank transfer at least a day before the event.  For 75 people a third bar staff will be provided (supplement of £75); For 100 or more people a fourth bar staff will be provided (supplement of £150)
• £200 deposit to hold booking and for security against damage to the clubhouse/equipment to be paid by at least 2 weeks before the event – deposit non-refundable if booking cancelled.

 
Recommendations/ Optional Extras

• We can recommend caterers or clients can bring in their own food/caterers (caterer’s responsibility to clean kitchen after use and provide all crockery and cutlery)
• Decorations can be put up which do not mark the walls etc – but must be removed immediately after the party.
• We can recommend DJ, photo booth etc or clients can use their own
• Furniture can be moved by client, in consultation with Bar Manager

WLTC Team Updates
Mens:
Men’s 1st team won 4-3 on a shootout in the national league at home to Winchester yesterday (10/04/22). Well done to Jasper, Marcus, David, Pete and Farzan.

NPL – Mens and Ladies
Incase you missed it.. NPL Results 27th February.
Both, Mens and Ladies teams will be competing in the NPL Final, St Georges Hill from May 31^st – June 3^rd

WLTC Junior Updates

Easter Tournaments – Juniors

Update: 
Unfortunately due to lack of interest we had to CANCEL the 8&U tournament scheduled for Monday 11th April, apologies for any inconvenience.
 
Contact Beci on competitions@active-tennis.co.uk if you would like to transfer your entry over to the orange ball (9&U) competition at no extra charge. This will take place on Tuesday 12th April 3:30-6:30pm. Alternatively we can issue a refund at the bar. 

Junior Team Updates:

South & South West Tour – Downend & Frenchay Tennis Club – 9-4-2022, grade 5 10&U, the location changed to Painswick.  
Arnav, our junior member played very well and won!


Our junior member, Aaryan, participated in the following event today (Sunday 03rd April);
Central & East Tour – White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre – 3-4-2022, he was entered for both grade 5 – 8U and 9U on the same day.
He won 8U and later on the same day was runner-up 9U.  He fought very hard!

We had Ryan Storrie come down last week, he’s ranked 650 in the world, and came down to try a few demos and did a bit of filming for us. He was really impressed with the club, and said the indoor courts were some of the best he’s played on!

Update from our Neighbours

Just the Reminders…

WLTC Club Sessions

Please note that court allocation may change during school holidays/tournaments or due to matches/events. The clubhouse may be closed or have restricted hours on Sundays, Bank Holidays, however members can play on the outdoor courts on these days, at their own risk. 

All the above sessions are ‘turn up and play’ except for Team Practice (your captain will email you with a rota for this session if you play team tennis) and the Wednesday & Friday Midweek Session – please email tennismanager@wltc.co.uk if you would like to join the rota for this session.

Indoor Courts


Cancellation Policy
The cancellation policy is now 48 hours, effective from March 8th, meaning you can now cancel your courts up to 48 hours before your court reservation.

Opening Hours & Booking Info
Now open from 07:00, Monday-Fridays, and can be booked via your Got Courts account. 
We are reviewing opening hours with a view to extending indoor court availability, keep an eye out for updates soon.

Guest Fees 

Adult Guests are required to be set up on Got Courts.   

The guest can do this themselves simply by downloading Got Courts app and setting up a profile
*Please scroll down for reminders ‘how to set up a Got Courts account’ & ‘tag players to your bookings’

The Club Manager will check and approve the guest, add them as a ‘non-member’, which will allow them to be tagged into your bookings.

How to pay Adult Guest Fees
At the point of booking a court, the lead member will be able to tag their guest and make the payment before completing the booking. 
If there’s any issue making payment via Got Courts, please make sure you pay the guest fee at the bar before you start on court.
Cost: Adult – £10

How to pay Junior Guest Fees
All Junior Guest Fees are to be paid at the bar before you start on court.
Cost: Juniors – £2.50

No-Shows
As you will be aware the club has been closely monitoring no-shows in an attempt to increase court availability for all members.
Please remember to always cancel your court if you cant attend your reservation. Courts can be cancelled last minute, allowing another member to book the slot. 

Got Courts Assistance
If you experience any difficulties using Got Courts or have any general questions – you can email support@gotcourts.com for assistance.
 

You can recycle your old balls in the recycaball bins, available around the club. 

Don’t forget WLTC has an electric vehicle charging unit available for use at the entrance to the club.
