Club Life Newsletter – 22nd November 2021

Club Latest

Dear members,

There’s a lot to update you on in this club newsletter. We’ve had another busy few weeks and have plenty of events and tournaments on the horizon. The WLTC Christmas Party is less than 2 weeks away, please see the information and updates below. Tickets are still on sale at the bar for a few more days, make sure to book your place asap to avoid missing out.
The next event – Waves for Wishes, is being held on Sunday (28th Nov), full information also below. We have lots coming up for our Juniors too with Tinsel Tennis and some Christmas tournaments catering for ages u8 to u18!

Our Halloween Quiz Night was a huge success, thank you to all who came and of course all the efforts from our social team who put in many hours to make sure the event went brilliantly. Not forgetting our bar staff too (photo below) who are involved with all the planning and running of these events. We hope you all enjoyed having a professional Quiz Master for the first time at the club!

The winter season is well underway and we have now moved our club sessions indoors. Please see the confirmation of Club Sessions and the courts allocated below. It’s great to see so many members on court, demand for courts remains high but we are doing our best to accommodate everyone. As you’ll be aware the club has a cap on most membership options which has been in place for the last few months. It was introduced to help keep courts available for all our members to book. The club now has a large waiting list for new members which we are monitoring closely.

Our WLTC teams are all currently involved in the Winter Leagues and we’ve had some excellent recent results, and new members getting involved which is fantastic. Please see some recent results and update below.

Take care,

Jack Allan
Club Manager

Members Q&A
We love to hear from you, our members!
Whether it’s your feedback, about your time at the club, or your stories and experiences with tennis in general!

So in this newsletter we asked one of our members, Pete McCarroll (left) a few questions. Thanks Pete!

How long have you been a member of WLTC?
“I joined in 2013, shortly after I retired. I wanted to take up a sport that I hadn’t played before, so that I couldn’t be worse than when I started!”

Areas of the club you have been involved in now or in the past?
“I organise a Men’s Doubles group on Monday and Tuesday afternoons for about 5 years now. Also I regularly volunteer at the Windsor Open Junior Tournament each July – mostly for the excellent BBQ but also the good quality tennis!”

First live tennis match attended?
“ATP Finals at the O2, a few years ago now. Roger Federer played David Ferrer and I was stunned by Federer’s grace and style”

Favourite tennis player past or present?
“I doubt many people will agree but I love watching Nick Kyrgios. By far the most natural all round player who unfortunately will never win a big slam”

Favourite court surface to play on?
“It has to be WLTC’s indoor courts (Acrylic)”

Favourite tennis shot?
“Being a leftie, I love hitting a topspin inside out”

Favourite major tournament?
“Australian Open – sunshine and a great city, and relatively easy to get tickets”

Other than tennis, other sports you play?
“I’m a bit of a fitness freak. I used to run marathons and half marathons until my hip packed up. I also qualified as a personal trainer after 35 years as an accountant. These days I can be found in my garage with my kettle bells… when I’m not at WLTC!”

Quick Fire Questions

Favourite Holiday Destination?
“Australia”

Favourite Film?
“It’s a wonderful life”

Favourite Drink?
“Lime Soda – I gave up drinking 4 years ago but it used to be Châteauneuf du Pape”

Favourite Food?
“Rare fillet steak in a mushroom & Whisky sauce”

Your Party Trick?
“It used to be a Yard of Ale! Not quite the same with Lime & Soda!”

A little bit more…
“If you had a question for my favourite tennis coach it would be Matt Welsh!!”
